Striking Gold

While browsing through a favorite Whidbey Island thrift store earlier this week, I spotted an intriguing looking brown wooden box on the shelf. When I opened it, imagine my surprise to find 50 tubes of oil paint, and 29 (all sable) brushes in this beautiful box, marked at $50. I have little experience with painting in oils, but not due to lack of interest or desire. I know the cost of a single tube of paint, and of expensive sable brushes, and this box held a fortune! Now, thanks to Daniella's generosity (she stepped up and bought it for me), I find myself possessed of the means to begin to paint in oils - one step closer to becoming a Renaissance Woman, right??! Is anybody else out there lucky at finding terrific bargains at thrift stores and yard sales??

How beautiful! What an exquisite find! I too love to paint - though oil isn't something I've explored. It will be fun for you - discovering something new.

I hear about these kinds of bargains, however I never seem to find them. I found a lovely set of large, deep sounding wind chimes at a garage sale in Carmel last year - for 10 bucks! That was a great find, alas, my only great sale find!

Sounds like this set of oils and brushes was meant to find you - enjoy!

I'm off to Tassajara tomorrow a.m. for 4 days...ah...

Oooh, nice find!

Have a great time painting! I love oil paints, but don't do oil painting often since it takes a while to dry and the kids complain about the smell.

What a great find! I can't wait to see what you paint with these oils and sable brushes. I need to stop at more garage sales and thrift stores!

I wonder who owned it, and WHY they walked away.

As an artist, I can tell you, my brushes are personal, yea, even sacred to me.

Its like my purse or my jewelry. NOBODY touches them.

(Especially my camel hair quills.)

No, my brushes would not end up in a thrift store! Not unless I died, or was forced to sell them to feed my children, or maybe if my arms got cut off, and I could not bear to look at them, but even then, I would find it hard to let them go.
